SunRail ridership numbers continue to struggle, even with sporadic Saturday service being offered, but now Florida Department of Transportation officials are confirming a special Sunday service on March 5th. This is a privately funded initiative sponsored by Orlando City soccer, the Downtown Orlando Foundation and the Downtown Orlando Partnership. .

The decision to run special train service was finalized Friday morning, just two days before opening day at the new stadium for Orlando City Soccer. As to be expected for the opening day at any new stadium, large crowds are being predicted for downtown – so how many will actually take SunRail instead of driving?

SunRail service will begin with the first train leaving southbound from the DeBary station at 1:30 p.m. The last northbound train leaves the Sand Lake Road station at 9 p.m. and arrives in DeBary at 10:03 p.m. All regular fares apply.

Riders are being urged by SunRail officials to get to the stations at least 30 minutes early, especially if riders will need to purchase tickets on the platforms.
