Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs keep claiming the Brazilian pipeline of tourists can only be created through a new soccer stadium, but let’s take a look at that country’s current reaction to the amount of money Brazil is spending on sports stadiums and soccer specifically.

Clashes and protests continue to rage in Brazil over the government spending on sports stadiums, and soccer specifically for the World Cup. The residents are beyond angry – and for good reason.

Take a good look at this picture, because these are the apparent “future tourists” that will flock to Orange County all because we built a private team a new stadium. No one believes this to be true, of course. Every national economic study and every academic study proves there is NO local economic impact from publicly financed stadiums.

But since when have facts and figures ever mattered to the Orlando political establishment. The point is to exploit, benefit and move on here.
