Julian Castro, Mayor of San Antonio & keynote speaker of the 2012 DNC Convention, will address Florida Democrats at the 2013 Jefferson-Jackson gala.

The Florida Democratic Party announced that Julian Castro, Mayor of San Antonio and keynote speaker of the 2012 Democratic National Convention, will be the keynote speaker at the 2013 Jefferson-Jackson Gala in Hollywood, FL. On June 15th, Mayor Castro will join U.S. Senator Bill Nelson and DNC National Chair and Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Shultz together with Democrats from across the great state of Florida at the state party’s largest annual fundraising event.

Newly elected Chairwoman of the Florida Democratic Party Allison Tant hopes this headliner will kick-start the momentum to take on Governor Rick Scott and the Republicans in 2014. “We are truly excited and honored that Mayor Castro will be delivering the keynote address at this year’s Jefferson-Jackson Dinner,” said Tant. “He is a proven, strong leader and advocate for San Antonio’s middle class and has a bright future ahead of him.”

The son of community activists, Julian Castro’s commitment to public service runs deep. After earning a degree from Stanford and his JD from Harvard Law School, he returned to Texas. In 2001 he became the youngest city councilman in San Antonio history, and in 2009 was elected Mayor. Mayor Castro debuted on the national scene last year with his speech delivered to the DNC in Charlotte and is seen by many a rising star of the Democratic Party.
