Sunail Will Run Special Saturday Service on December 3rd
There will be special Saturday service for SunRail running on December 3rd, the Florida Department of Transportation announced. The Saturday service is part of a pilot program that is being privately funded, but recent Saturday service have resulted in lackluster ridership. Officials hope potential riders will take advantage of the special Saturday service as a fun ride to shopping and numerous events happening along the SunRail route.
In addition to the ACC Football Championship game between the Clemson Tigers and the Virginia Tech Hokies at Camping World Stadium, the College Football Championship Weekend Block Party will be happening in the Church Street District. Also on December 3rd, Christmas is Coming Uptown and Octonauts Live at the Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center and the Downtown Orlando Food Tour starting at the Downtown Orlando Information Center will take place (use Church Street Station for both). Fans headed to the Amway Center for the I Love the 90’s Tour can also take advantage of the special Saturday service. There will also be a Holiday Concert at Lake Eola (use LYNX Central Station).
On Saturday, SunRail service begins with the first train leaving southbound from the DeBary station at 1pm and the last northbound train leaves the Sand Lake Road station at 10:45pm and arrives in DeBary at 11:48pm. All regular fares apply and tickets are required to ride.
Other events along the SunRail route include: Winter in the Park (Ice Skating in the West Meadow) using the Winter Park Station; The Happy Elf at the Orlando Repertory Theater, Every Christmas Story Ever Told (And Then Some) at the Orlando Shakespeare Theater and a Star Studded Evening at Crosby Observatory at the Orlando Science Center (Florida Hospital Health Village Station); and the Festival of Trees at Lake Mary Historical Museum (Lake Mary Station).
SunRail urges riders to get to the stations at least 30 minutes early, especially if you are purchasing tickets at the vending machines located on the platforms. If you are making LYNX bus connections, please be advised LYNX Saturday service may differ from regular weekday service, so check the schedule.
