SunRail Transforms Coach Car Into Art Gallery

artismoving3Officials have announced a SunRail coach car has been transformed into a rolling art gallery, with riders getting their first glimpse beginning Thursday afternoon. The project is called “Art is Moving” and is a privately funded initiative conducted through a partnership of leading arts groups. The kickoff for “Art is Moving” also coincides with this weekend’s Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival and special Saturday SunRail service.

The project features work of artists from across Central Florida, including artists in every county served by SunRail according to Florida Department of Transportation officials. More photos from the special coach car below.

The inaugural trip of the special art gallery coach car will be the 1pm southbound train out of DeBary on March 16th. It will run three round trips today. The special art train is expected to run the same schedule on Friday as well.

The “Art is Moving” coach car will be part of the 10am SunRail train on Saturday, March 18th and will also run three round trips that day. The special Saturday service is also privately funded.

The upcoming special Saturday SunRail service really leaves all potential riders with no excuse not to try the train. Venues this Saturday feature the 58th Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival, NCAA March Madness 2nd round playoffs at the Amway Center and an Orlando City Soccer match at the team’s new stadium Saturday night.

Trains will be running from 10am (first train leaving DeBary station) and 12:15am (last train leaving Sand Lake Road station and arriving in DeBary at 1:18am). The full schedule for Saturday, March 18th can be found here.

All the window artwork is made of perforated vinyl to allow safe visibility from inside and outside the vehicle at all times. The artists are also featured on SunRail’s website.
