Orlando City Commissioner Re-Elected Without Challenger

Tony Ortiz 1Orlando City Commissioner Tony Ortiz did not draw a challenger for this November’s municipal election. Ortiz is now re-elected without having to run a campaign or earn any votes.

Candidate Alex Rivera entered the race for Orlando City District 2 several months ago bringing a message of change to his potential challenge to Ortiz. However, Rivera did not qualify with the City Clerk today before the municipal election deadline.

Ortiz is now elected to his third four-year term to the Orlando City Council.

The news also means there will only be elections for City Commissioner in Districts 4 and 6 this November 3rd. Ballots for the rest of the City of Orlando, including District 2 now, will only feature the Mayor’s race, where two Republican candidates have qualified to run against Buddy Dyer.
